in which you promised not to laugh . . .

Alright, but first let me explain. As a kid I was fascinated with happy families. I closely watched their dynamics and how they interacted. The show The Walton’s was hands-down, my favorite TV show. They problem solved, worked, struggled and played together. They were loyal. When they fought they fought fairly. For one hour every Thursday night at 6:00 I morphed into their family. A few years later the Donny and Marie show began. Voila! A chance to watch another family interact successfully, but this time it wasn’t a pretend family. I didn’t watch for the music, choreography, or pretty faces; I watched to see how the family interacted. I watched to see them laugh, give eye contact to each other and help each other succeed.

Saturday night the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Osmond family performed a concert together in Salt Lake City, Utah celebrating Pioneer Day. We watched the performance on TV and I was not disappointed. The Choir is always good and . . . once again . . . I got to watch a family interact successfully. A family that has problem solved, worked, struggled and played together. It is amazing to me that in today’s society when so many family members eat fellow family members for lunch that all nine of them can stand on a stage together and perform with sincerity and incredible talent. And that’s why I was excited Saturday evening.

Oh Jane! Here's something to console you from your teasing! The whole time we were down in Las Vegas, I kept telling the kids that the trip would have been totally worth all the anxiety if the Donny and Marie show would have been up and running! It didn't start until the 12th of July. I wanted to see it so badly because I knew that it wouldn't be something that I wondered whether it would be appropriate.

It was an awesome concert, wasn't it?

I loved those shows. I still am amazed what a fabulous family the Osmonds are. I watched their Oprah special they did right after their father died. I had tears in my eyes. They all stand together it is amazing.

I like the new commenting option. :-)

Okay, I admit, I might have poked a bit of fun at you for that one - but since I promised I wouldn't . . . Please, Cali, blog about your mom's Osmond "quirk" so I can poke fun over on your site :)

I am sooo bummed that I missed it! I got the email reminder about it from the BYU channel, and totally forgot to set my dvr to record it! I gotta go see if they are reairing it so I can watch it. I totally remember watching the Donny and Marie show. I also remember going with Aunt Charlotte down to her apartment at BYU that she shared with Marie and her roommates. I was sooo excited, but she was not there, she was in class. BUMMER!

I was a big Donny and Marie fan back in the day, my sister is a living testament to that.
I guess I could have watched the concert by video stream on the internet, but I had work to do on Saturday night, and I couldn't indulge in front of the computer all night. I'm glad a true fan got to watch.
