SPT-Ice Cream

The self in this portrait is my thumb in the upper left corner.
Oh, and funny enough, my maiden name is Chadwick
so that makes this portrait even more self -ish.

I remember my mom churning ice cream on the sidewalk so that the salty, ice, water run-off wouldn’t create havoc in the kitchen sink pipes. While she tended the dasher I rode my bike in circles around and around—shirtless. I remember the neighbor stared.

My grandmother used to take us out to lunch at a fancy restaurant when we spent the night with her. One day I dripped chocolate ice cream on my blouse. I pulled the clean part of my top over the dirty splotch and folded my arms to keep it secure. I hoped Grandma didn’t see. I didn’t unfold my arms until I went home hours later.

To this day, I still have nightmares where I forget to wear a shirt, but don’t realize it until I get to the party and someone looks at me funny. It makes me want to crumble in a corner every time. My friend says those dreams interpret that I’m feeling vulnerable and that could be, but what do you want to bet I only have them on days I eat ice cream?

Ande made this great dessert for us Sunday. Thanks to it, I’m finally a mint chocolate chip ice cream fan. Who knew it just needed some caramel?

Asphalt Pie

Oreos
½ gallon of mint chocolate chip ice cream
1 jar each of hot fudge and caramel ice cream topping
1 large tub of whipped topping

Roll two of the three rows of Oreo cookies into crumbs. Line the bottom of a 9” x 13” pan with crumbs. Layer ice cream on top of cookie crumbs and drizzle ½ of the hot fudge and caramel over the ice cream. Top with whipped cream and garnish with more hot fudge and caramel drizzles and Oreos cut in half. Freeze until solid.

I am sooo happy you are on blogspot! I can now stalk you EVERYDAY! (I could not read your blog from the other site you used) I have got to get on the ball and update all the stuff that has been going on with us. I absolutely LOVE reading about my long lost family who I love and adore! Give Calvin and the kids hugs and kisses from me! Sure do miss you all!

OK...this spt is officially a bad thing for me...I am soooo craving my vice right now and more so with each post I read. Thanks for the recipe...SO YUMMY! I will have to make this sometime soon...and hide it from the rest of the ice cream lovers in my family or else I will get none :)!

You are so clever with your stories. I think if imagined myself shirtless everytime I thought about ice cream I would definitely NOT eat as much of it and that might not be bad thing!

Oh yeah, thanks for the birthday shout out...I'm so lacking in my blogging this summer that I didn't even post a thing about my increasing age (which I honestly don't mind at all) so it was nice to get a Happy Birthday from you, unsoliciated to boot!

Very clever.... that dessert has to be one of my all time favorites. (Jill melts a cube of butter in the crust. I know!)

Yum! I can't wait to make that. Growing up, my little neighbor friend would run around without a shirt. My sisters and I were mortified by it, but my friend only had one older brother and no sisters so I guess it seemed normal to her.

I love your stories. I think my husband would kiss the ground I walked on if I made that dessert- so how can I not? Thanks for the recipe!

Mint and caramel, I never would have thought. It will be tried.
Carmen likes to sleep shirtless, a habit I'm trying to discourage. Now I can tell her it will give her nightmares when she's older :-)

Oh thanks to Ande, we now have a new favorite treat. Brent and I both loved it. And it was so easy, my favorite!

I had a friend in school (5th grade specifically) who put her coat on at home while her shirt finished in the dryer...she then left for school, forgetting to get her shirt out of the dryer. A girl with a spare shirt in her locker (why??) came to the rescue!

Your ice cream recipe looks delicious.
