Homemaking Tip--Cooler Cooler

Last night was Abe's last night home of his summer leave. We stayed up until 1:30 am laughing and telling reruns (the kids have the quirkiest memories of the funniest things). When the kids finally left our bedroom they must have migrated pack-like to the family room, because when I got up this morning I found them all sleeping together in there--Ande on the long part of the sectional, Abe on the chair part and Cali on the inflatable mattress in the corner. It was just like Christmas Eve where they still want to sleep in the same room. I'm so glad we like each other. It makes being a family much easier.

Last week when we went on our bike ride, we had planned to leave Friday night and spend the night closer to the trailhead. However, plans changed at the last minute (after the coolers were packed and loaded) and I forgot to put the cold packs back in the freezer. No worries. The next morning I just put a small roast in a recloseable bag and used it instead. The meat had thawed by the time we returned home, so I put it in the fridge and we cooked it for dinner the next day. (This package of meat happens to be caribou [a gift from a great and generous friend]. It's the first time we've ever had it and it was really good. We marinated it and then kabobbed it with peppers.)
