SPT--My 100 List

Lelly’s SPT challenge this month is to highlight things from our list of 100 Random Facts about Me . Fittingly, October 7th is to be a self-portrait of #7 . . . except that my #7 doesn’t lend itself to a flattering self-portrait.

#7—I am a terrible judge of character, so quit trying several years ago

Me lined up with a bunch of characters that I misjudged is too much to ask. I may be willing to do an SPT in a wedding dress that no longer zips. I may be willing to do an SPT of all ten of my chins. I may even be willing to do an SPT of me in my plaid dress, but I have to draw the line somewhere and #7 is the line; for though I know the difference between right and wrong, black and white, front and back, I still get confused on character.

But, Lelly is always so good to come up with challenges that give us cause for introspection, so rather than abort I decided to adapt. I chose a different number:
#13—I am not good at fashion or make-up

Cali and Ande secretly planned to enter me in What Not to Wear a year or two ago. I discovered it and promised to more readily take their advice and buy some new clothes rather than let Stacy and Clinton show my over-sized sack dresses, sagging blue cardigan, and fat-butt-tight-ankle Levis to the nation.

It doesn't bother me that I’m not fashion savvy; I just don’t want to dress in front of a national TLC audience. Yesterday I was given a big bag of hand-me-down clothes from someone who is fashion savvy. I am so grateful; I don’t have to pick out the clothes, I just have to fit in the clothes she picked out. This is shopping I can do. In this self-portrait, I’m sitting on the couch in front of the TV wearing a brown jacket from the bag of clothes. Lucky, lucky me. I’m one step further away from ever being nominated. Since I'm wearing my fashionable friend's clothes they'd take her before me.

adapt!! such a fitting approach to spt for you this week (i'll admit, the thought of you lining up some *characters* from your past was an entertaining idea...)

i LOVE the kind of shopping you speak of here. in fact, there's a big shopping bag full of clothes waiting for me to check out this weekend.

and i, for one, believe you are very savvy.

and, your wedding dress spt was one of my favorite spts EVER!!

I hear you! I am in a fashion rut, and know next to nothing about make-up. That brown jacket does look great on you!

You look cute! I am not very fashionable either but 90% of the time this does not bother me...

great adaptation!

This is adorable.

I will totally back you on doing whatever it takes to avoid being on What Not to Wear -- what a nightmare!

p.s. I have a hard time believing that you are a terrible judge of character... is it because you think everyone is great?

You're so cute! I would love to be on What Not To Wear. I mean a $5,000 shopping spree in NY, come on what could be better!

Jane, You are the perfect judge of character! You trust everyone and see the good in everyone. I think many of us who see the not so good in people need to be with you for awhile. I always feel better when I've been with you and I'm sure those others with "bad" character do too! Just don't give anyone money without asking Calvin first.
As for your clothes, that is quite fixable and you look great in that color and style of jacket!

judging character isn't always the easiest thing to do, either is fashion.

I think we all have to find our own style and it's okay to have your own style. That's what makes us each unique. You look great in the picture, so you and your friend must have done something right!

I fear what that show would do to my wardrobe since I currently wear either black or white shirts and jeans on a daily basis. Score on the bag of clothes. I need to get with the SPT's again!

I am the same when judging character, I fail miserably. my instinc is to go against my instinct.

BTW from a makeup artist who turned down what not to wear.. you are very fashion smart and your makeup always looks fresh and natural. I doubt you need a lick of cosmetic help.

my makeup philosophy.."if you can slap it on in 5 minutes or less and feel good about yourself, you makeup is perfect!"

www.maryrc.com a little clout for you...

Great SPT and you look beautiful in the picture, no need for What not to wear. :-)

what? I would have thought you'd be an excellent judge of character. I guess I'm glad you didn't put up a picture of you and me and stick with your number 7! :)

I always feel bad for the people on that show, although some really deserve it. For your farming mama/neighbors tips way of doing things, I think you are and look....perfect.

NJP, you always make me laugh! Who needs make up when you have a smile like yours?!?

Lovin the brown jacket and happy you have such a great friend to 'donate' to you...however, I am thinking it would have been funny to see you in a line-up with past characters too!

ps - I can't believe you were secretly submitted to What Not to Wear...now that would be a bit intimidating to say the least!

From SPT - I too am not really good at either. I hardly ever wear make-up only because you can't ever tell I have any on so why bother!! and with fashion I usually just wear what is comfortable. Not lazy or anything just jeans as my norm. Oh well!

My sister told me that she was going to submit me as well. How Funny! I love the brown jacket!

I would love to be on that show! I do the same thing with my makeup that my sisters taught me 16 years ago!

You're just plain funny! I love the thought of you gathering up a bunch of characters you've misjudged for a self-portrait.

Score on the fashionable hand-me-downs!

Oh this made me smile- The thought of you taking a SPT- with those you have misjudged.
I think I understand what you mean- My girlfriend and I were just having a conversation about this over the weekend.
Hooray for new clothes that you don't have to pick out. Those are my favorite kind!
