#14. I am good at making do.
The timing for this could not have been more perfectly planned Lelly, thank you.
Early, early this morning I saw a mouse in the house and #56 on my list is: Mice make me angry. They take things that aren’t theirs. I looked for a broom, a stick, a bludgeon, a club, a pair of gloves, a big spoon, anything to whop him. Nothing. I was afraid I'd lose the mouse if I went to look for something so I grabbed a cup and trapped him instead. Then, just to be sure he wouldn't escape before Calvin could kill him, I put a heavy book on top.
Truth be told, he was slow, likely a case of mouse-poisoning overdose, but taking advantage of a situation is one of the best parts of making do. In fact, I think most of my talents stem from making do.

I don't know whether to be more impressed with your "making do" or your ability to stay calm in the presence of a mouse. We had some visitors a year ago and I was anything but calm in dealing with them. Impressive!
eeeehhhheeheeheehhhheeeeeeehhhh...
I HATE MICE!!!! I would have been freaking out. living in the country with a river on oneside and a field on the other...yea those creapy little thieves try to get in my house too.
The other day, I looked outside and I had 4 cats lined up across my front yard looking at the field. I thought to my self, "Self, I am keeping my cats, I don't care how many bags of cat food I have to buy this winter"
Loved your making due!
cute photo, funny story, impressive courage...I just don't know if I could have been as brave as you!
I scream like a baby with mice. They creep me out. They are small, so seems really silly. I am impressed you kept your cool and made do. I would have screamed and would still have a mouse. :-)
I think I am with the rest of your comments, I HATE MICE! And scream and run when I see them. Oh and I stand on top of bar stools too!! One time when I was home from college for christmas I think, everyone was in bed except my mom and I. We saw a mouse, both started screaming, I jumped on a bar stool and she jumped on a chair, with an umberella, not sure what that was for, but we woke EVERYONE up and made my dad come and catch it. We then spent the next half hour trying to get the stupid mouse traps set, and after two seconds of setting one down we caught another. so so yucky!!!
YOU NEVER CEASE TO AMAZE ME, seriously! UGH...I can't believe you had the presence of mind to spt your "making do" with your invader! I would have been FREAKING out...big time! (Very cute nylons too :) hee hee)
ugh - I really hate those little thieves. No way would I have been able to put a cup on top of one.
Way to 'make do'.
You are a stalwart woman, Jane. I would not want to get close enough to the mouse to pop the cup on top.
I agree that talents are shown when people make do. Then we have to see what they are made of!
Hahaha. Oh that was so, so awesome!! I'm glad that you trapped that mouse.
Are you going to use the cup again??
Rachel
Way to improvise! I think I'd just scream and run the other way. You ARE good at making do and being brave to get that close to a mouse!!
Wow, there is no way I could have caught a mouse with a cup! You are talented as well as resourceful.
I LOVE your take on making do. Wish I coulda been there with you, he'd have been in double trouble. I am not afraid of mice or bugs. I dont like snakes or roaches tho.
And I like the way you think, "he will get away if I look for something". Your engenuity proves what a smart thinker you are!
Eek! You are brave. We just had an infestation of mice in our house...well, not infestation, but 2, and that's 2 too many! We set traps and that did the trick. Yuck. Then we got a cat (my husband was begging for one anyway). I don't think I could ever get close enough to capture one, though!
What the? We've had mice and there is no way I could get close enough to trap one in a cup! Way to go.
That's a great quality to have and such a funny picture to go with this post!
I'm actually pretty good at making do as well, although I am fairly certain I might not function knowing a live mouse waited under a cup for later. But, to bring it to a level I'm comfortable with, I'm quite adept at swatting wasps and flies with kitchen towels, magazines, shoes etc. There. Now I can feel more like Jane:)
our preferred method is old shoebox, but, hey, if you've gotta make do, you make do!!
oh, the dreaded panty hose. how i prefer the dreaded trouser socks!
