SPT--The thing that first attracted me to Calvin was . . .

Photobucket

(Calvin listening to someone play the bagpipes, or accordian, or piano, or nose-flute or something...I can't remember now what it was, but I do remember that everyone else in the hall was buzzing around when I looked over and there he was doing what he does so well, just listening.)

. . . he was such a good listener.

Our first date Calvin asked me lots of questions about myself and then was genuinely interested in my responses. It was very refreshing. When I went back to my apartment that night I thought, "Whether he ever asks me out again or not, I have found a friend."

Lucky for me he asked me out again and again and again . . . and he is still a good listener.

I love it. I have found really good listeners to be rare and have sadly discovered my own interest/ability to be one has waned over the years. Definitely a thing to be attracted to.

I wish I was a better listener, definitely something I look for in someone else!

A good listener is very important and can be hard to find.

It's funny, I thought I really liked my answer to the challenge....you reminded me of another reason. Good listens are very special people. I love that quality! You are a lucky lady.

Seriously! I'm just remembering I should have put that down onmy list of things I'm looking for in a spouse! I can't stand when i put forth effort into getting to know someone and they don't give me anything back. . .I've been having issues with that lately! Did I mention that I think you and Bro. Payne are the greatest pair! I'm very admiring of your relationship, it's truly special!

That is a great quality. Something we should all strive for, for sure!

What a special trait. It must be wonderful to be married to a good listener!

Jane, I think I've figured out how to leave a comment! And I know that Calvin is a good listener but in this picture, he looks just a tad bit bored (are only positive comments acceptable? If they are, just delete away).

Ande's question about 'Abe's friend' is the same one I want answered---what should we be calling her?

Loved the Lincoln stuff, too. Love your blog, too.

What a sweet post. And he probably feels so lucky to have such a great wife to listen to!

A good listener is a very hard thing to find. I know that's one thing that I really enjoy in my husband - and noticed even when we were just friends and not dating.
