Homemaking Tip—Count your Bars
A few years ago I was assigned to prepare snack packs for a boy scout whitewater rafting trip and put granola bars, string cheese, and fruit leather into reseal able bags. We bought the big 48 count boxes of Quaker Chewy Granola Bars—and got gypped. One box had 47 bars, the other 46. It bugged me. I called the Quaker Oat company and the representative acted as if it were an anomaly and offered a coupon. I doubt I got the only two boxes that are short, but seldom do people count mega box contents. Hmmmm. "Count your bars" is today’s frugal homemaking tip.

That is such a good idea! Who knew! I am such a trusting soul...and like an air head when it comes to that sort of thing.
I count everything... apparently it isn't as quirky as I thought it was!
Count my bars I shall. When I saw the title, I thought maybe you were going to talk about AT&T and their "more bars in more places."
I love you... and your blog.
No way, this is semi-scandalous info. I have never thought to count my bars, but I will from now on.
I am loving this! And Jill's comment is making me chuckle :) I have never thought to count these but I have counted other products (when making crafting kits for girls camp last year, for example) and I have once or twice been shorted a couple.
Great advice!
My first thought - seems like more than a "few" years ago that you'd be packing Boy Scout snacks.
My second thought - how long can you get away with saying a "few" years? How broad is the acceptance range for a "few"? I could use this to my advantage for years to come!
My last thought - missing a "few" granola bars is a far more heinous offense than fudging on years - I'll be counting from now on.
My PS thought - I had to open MS Word and spell-check heinous before I was able to let myself "publish" this comment.
hahahahahaha
I thought it was going to be a spin on "count your blessings", but this is much better! I find myself getting gipped frequently as well, but instead of calling the company to complaing, I just moan and groan to anyone who will listen....
Love Heather M's "ps" comment!
I just bought one of those mega boxes of nutragrain bars and now I'm totally curious.
I never count. I'm a trusting soul:)
you are right - never counted. that is oh, so aggrevating!
man it its so sad how companie sover the years make things smaller and smaller. i just noticed that my favorite ice cream is now only 1.5 quarts vs a 1/2 gallon. same price though!
