Homemaking Tip—The Fruits

Ande helped me pick the blackberries in the garden this afternoon. This bowl full is going to jam.

After we picked the blackberries we picked the ripe cherry tomatoes. I don’t know what the little red scooper is called, all I know is it makes hulling strawberries and tomatoes quick and easy. If you ever see a huller, grab it because they aren’t everywhere.

Calvin loves these little cherry tomatoes filled with equal parts of cream cheese and sour cream, along with some bacon bits and chives thrown in for flavor.

I thought you’d like this idea of Susan’s. First thing this morning, her girls brought me a basket of apples with a jar of caramel.  Nothing like enthusiasm, a red gingham bow, and caramel apples slices to make a happy start for a new school year.

It was fun picking stuff with you in the garden. I love doing that with you. I wish there were more days to do it.

I only wish I could say that I grew those apples, but alas, I will just have to say, that I lovingly picked them at the grocery store...

I love blackberries! So jealous!

Ok all of those things sounds delicious. We have Cherry tomatoes in our backyard. I will have to try filling them and see if it is a hit at our house!

I love Susan. She is always so thoughtful!

Yep, I'm pretty much jealous of all of those things! The apples and caramel sauce are brilliant, I may have to borrow that idea.

Hi Jane!

I don't know who is more excited to learn Kaitlyn has YOU for seminary! Horray for another year! And horray for (finally) getting back to blogging...

And I LOVED when you played the organ when I was in 6th ward. Tempo and all. :)

Oh yum. Fresh produce. Some day I am going to live in a place where I can have a garden. It's going to rival yours, just you wait. hahaa. yeah right, you always have the best kept garden.

You and the Garden of Eden have much in common...beauty, fruitful and a joy to be near. Thank you for all the beauty you show in pictures, in your service and being the great woman you are. I was hoping that some of my grandchildren would get you for Seminary: Megan, Marquel, Heidi, Josh, Makenna, Maren. Hope you got at least one of them. Or I should say, I hope that at least one of them got YOU...AS YOU ARE FANTASTIC.

Berry picking and jam making are two of my favourite end-of-summer activities. I'm not kidding. I find the picking very calming, but fun, and cooking up a bit pot of jam, smelling that smell...Oh! Even thinking about it is making me happy. And then, when the jar seals and makes that little 'pop' sound to let you know you did it just right? Well, that is just too much joy for one person, right there.

But to do all that with those beautiful blackberries? A new realm of satsifaction altogether!

I have a bowl full of cherry tomatoes that need this very treatment. I might even get Milo to try them.

The blackberries look good too. I love homemade jam, all varieties!

Yummy! I love the cherry tomato idea. I also love apples with caramel! Yummy, yummy!

And to Susan, I used to be very picky about apples in the store and I still am, but in a different way. Those apples go through extensive sorting and washing and packing to get to the store and I have had a greater appreciation for store-bought apples ever since I worked in the apple industry. Nothing is quite like a fresh-picked apple still, but there is no shame in buying them at the store. :-)
