Thursday Thinking – A Good Excuse

My sister once read to me what was written on a hypochondriac’s epitaph – “See.  I told you I was sick.”

Today I went to give blood.  They said my blood was too weak.  I came home and told Calvin in an imagined hypochondriac’s voice, “See.  I told you I was tired” and then, since he was dishing up the tamale pie, “better scoop me a double portion.”

He responded, “What you need is Geritol.”  That was the answer to every “iron poor blood,” Lawrence Welk viewer in the 60’s and 70’s.

Much as I hate having my blood rejected (the least of my worries being everyone politely nodding as you walk out while wondering which very personal question you must have failed), it felt good for someone to validate that indeed, my blood was tired today.

I’m thinking I need to be in bed by 8:30.

I am surprise Jane as you are a ball of fire and I know you eat healthy. But it is a common thing especially for women. Let Calvin do the laundry, the cleaning and the cooking for one week only because you need to rest. Sound like a good idea. Try it and let me know. By the way, thank you for commenting on my blog. That was so sweet of you. Hugs, Deanna P. S. Eat your spinach!! look what it did for Popeye. ;)

I am just curious what the * on "tired blood" refers too... lol You definitely needed a double serving and if you didn't have one, I had one for you!

I remember the Geritol commercials from the 80's with Evonne Goolagong talking about iron-poor blood.

I hope you'll start taking an iron supplement! I know the pain of low-iron, it's brutal and it usually takes at least 2 weeks for your red blood cells to build up again.

My favorite part is the BAGS under the woman's eyes in the advertisement. How ironic. I hope they still gave you the juice and knock-off Oreo, though.

I went in to donate blood twice this summer and was denied both times for tired blood. I wanted them to give me a sticker that said, "I just didn't have enough iron" for when I did the walk of shame because I was just sure that people assumed the worst!

I have no idea why they say, "Never let the sun catch you in bed".
I feel like if I don't sleep in a little...I will be tired all day.

However, I am tired all day if I do or don't!!!

Hope you feel more up soon, Jane!

For all my Lawrence Welk watching, I don't recall ever seeing a Geritol ad (there, or elsewhere). Hope your blood got some rest and is feeling better! :)

Evonne Goolagong?! What the??

Having tired blood definitely sounds like a good excuse for eating a little more and resting a little more, too. And taking a supplement, like Jill said.

I just had my blood tested and was surprised that my iron was just fine. Low on vitamin D, though. And I take a supplement, too!
