Every now and then Murphy gets it right and the wrong thing happens. Every now and then Murphy gets it wrong and the right thing happens.
Last week Calvin and Ty found a couple of stray pit bulls by the chicken coop. The coop door was wide open and only one chicken was left perched on the roost. I expected to find a feather bath out in the pasture. Ty and I herded what chickens we could find back into the coop while Calvin shooed the dogs far, far away. After everything we could find was back in the coop I took a count. Only two roosters were missing, and I've been trying to give three roosters away for the last three months to any one that would take them. Those dogs have the ears of a rat.
Our scouts pressed fresh apple juice. Calvin said he’d buy 25 gallons to support their cause. The bishop and his son just dropped them off and Calvin is gone watching the wrestling tournament. Where oh where do you store 25 gallons of fresh apple juice?
Anyone up for a date pinwheel cookies and apple juice party? I'll give away a rooster as a door prize.

i'll take the apple juice!!! Can you freeze the apple juice?
I'll buy a couple of your apple ciders if they are available. I only purchased one and the kids LOVE it and I know they will have this jug gone by tomorrow. Dates? The only dates I like are with my husband. No date cookies for me.
My aunt makes a wonderful date bar, so I would give your date pinwheels a try, and I LOVE fresh apple juice. I can't say I would like to take home the rooster, but 2 out of 3 is ok.
My apple juice was on the door step when I got home last night. I wondered what to do with 2 gallons. I canned it, and now have 7 lovely quarts of apple juice in the pantry.
Where WILL you put all of that apple juice? I bet it's delicious!
I like dates, but rarely eat them. When we had our ladies lunch, Whitney had a fancy drink with date puree in it and it was really good!
So glad you didn't lose any of your chickens.
I am pretty sure that if you invite, they will come! I too have fond memories of date pinwheels. As a kid, baking cookies for Christmas to give to the mailman and the neighbors was what we did since we could not afford other gifts. I love those pinwheels, but have not made them for so long.
This is funny, and by far, far away do you mean.....
BettyLou has a recipe for pecan tassies that have dates in them and they are almost too good. I'll give you the recipe if you still have more dates.
I love dates! I love date bars, that is! Yummy.
If I could I would join you for a apple juice party!!!
I love Jane how you "talk"...in your writings. I feel your spirit, your sense of humor and can even see your beautiful smile and sparkling eyes. You just make "life" come alive!! Thank you for always being so cheerful and making others smile. You are great!!
I just read this. I can't quit laughing. Especially about the rooster door prize and that the other 2 got eaten by the dogs. Oh mom. I love you SOOOOOOOOO much. Don't you think I take you for granted... well maybe sometimes I do, but then I repent.
