Homemaking Tip—Office Supplies in the Freezer

The office supply store (Staples) sells a little plastic tub that you can fill with paper fasteners. You buy them by the container rather than by the piece, so it’s to your benefit to pack them carefully. I was only slightly self-conscious as I took fifteen minutes and carefully rearranged and fit dozens of clips into my tub. There are designer, plain, regular and fancy clips and my favorite use for them is one Ande showed me—keeping opened bags tightly closed in the freezer.

"so it’s to your benefit to pack them carefully." That made me giggle because that is totally what I thought when you said you buy them by the container. Gotta get your moneys worth!

This is a fantastic idea. I can't believe I haven't thought of it before!

I have a little crush on binder clips. For some reason, I just love the little things, and what a good use for them!

They are the most durable "chip clip" ever. Way better than thos plastic things that break after then 3rd use!

I think it is funny to watch when people pack their things so carefully. It really does make more sense.

They really do work great. And I love picturing you stacking them in carefully to maximize the space. My Safeway store sells bricks of cheese, all about the same size, for the same price, but if you go through each brick, you can get several more oz for free if you are careful. I'd be stacking those clips right along side of you!

You're ripping off my company! That's okay though. If they lose enough money maybe they'll rearrange upper level management and start actually running the company, rather than sit at their desks and cash in their stock options before it's too late.

Jill's got me using clothespins to close every bag under the sun...

I'm with Michelle...we use clothes pins for everything! And when you travel and you put some snacks in the car/boat/backpack don't forget to put a clothes pin on the bag so after you open and snack on it you can close it.

This is a great tip! I love clothespins for most of my package-closing needs, but these would give a much tighter fit.

How about some friendly competition? Tell me your number & I'll try to beat it!

Little do you know I only did that out of necessity...not because I am a genius. I did it becasue I am a poor college student yet it seems like I never run out of office supplies. Glad you liked my idea!

I love you.

Binder clips rock. Did you know that they are commonly used on television and photography sets? They're used to clip clothing in the back to make it fit properly. To clip a number of things in place for temporary placement for the shot even to clip filters on lights. Oh yea I know allll about binder clips baby!
