I mentioned a week or two ago that I had taken this picture of two veterans. This was my correspondence with George, the man on the right . . .
Dear George,
I took this picture of you a couple of weeks ago at the WW II memorial. I just love it. Every time I see it, it makes me smile. Thank you for letting me take it and thank you for serving all of us in the military.Best wishes to you always,
Jane Payne
Dear Jane:You made me a winner..As soon as you took our photo, my friend said:"you will never get that picture". I told him I was positive I will get that picture. so,I am going to send him a copy and I am certain there will be some grovelling on his part.Thank you. I am sorry we are a continent apart; I would love to take you to dinner. You are a different breed! With gratitude, George Brown
Dear George,
Oh ho! I’m so glad I could make you the winner. I’m only sorry it took me so long to get it to you so that he thought he won.
Seeing you veterans at the WWII memorial was the thing that made it so great. I dread the day when there are no more vets, so please live as long as you can.
I wish we weren’t a continent apart, too. I’d love dinner and to learn about your life.
Thanks for being a friend,
Jane
Wouldn't you love to go to dinner with George? I'll bet he likes steak.

You charmer you.
Ande took the words right out of my mouth :)
Love it!
Of course he recognized you as a different breed. I think you would really enjoy dinner as my bet is he likes steak.....and....potatoes.
I'd like to go to dinner with both of you.
(I'm now inspired to take pictures of people and email them to them. Never thought of that one before!)
I would have loved to hear the rest of the story between these 2 friends after you left them. You are a special one of kind person, and I am lucky that I can count you as my friend.
I love this!!
I love the way old men flirt with younger women, it is so harmless and fun for them. I am sure you made his day, week, year!!!! Steak for sure!
What a charmer he is! I'm glad he "won". Steak, definitely steak.
What an exciting week. so many happy moments it would be hard to single out just one favorite. Definitely a parent payoff. This was a major milestone for Abe and I'm glad Grace will be part of the memory. History, whether for a country or a family, tends to keep us tied together. Congratulations to the mom and dad!

Jane - You ARE a charmer. Your ability to converse with such a diverse cross-section of people speaks volumes. You're quite a gal. . .
awww. I just thought those two were super cute. Steak would definately be on the menu. Did you get any neat stories about their experiencs?
I really enjoyed this blog. I smiled the whole time.
Your family is such a good example to me of being greatful for those who have served and countinue to serve our country.
For Memorial Day I was able to give a talk in church about all the temporal and spiritual blessing that we have because we live in this wonderful land. I am not going to lie, after I gave my talk, I thought, “I am sad Brother and Sister Payne aren’t here to listen to my talk.” I would have liked to know if I got a passing grade on it.
This is SO you and I love it. Perfect example of gratitude and follow through. Both of which I need. Thanks!
I would have forgotten to send the picture and made his friend the winner- shame on me! This is so you Jane.
You are indeed a different breed. I love that you sent the picture and made his day.
Wonderful! I think my favorite thing is that he was sure you would send him a copy of the photo!
