Homemaking Tip--Leave Room

Photobucket

I saw a stitchery pattern several years ago of a beehive in a garden of flowers with bees buzzing. The caption underneath said, “Leave Room in Your Garden for the Bees to Dance.” I came home and drew a pattern that fit my limited abilities, traced it onto muslin and primitive stitched it, later making the muslin squares into decorative pillows.

I really like the saying, it politely says: one, recreation is important to the sanity of the soul; two, don’t underestimate the quiet guy, he is often what makes things happen; and three, it’s all about having balance in life.

I’ve given away all the pillows now but a couple of days ago I saw a gigantic bumble bee sitting on a pink flower in the garden—he needed a big space to do his dance—and so I dragged out the pattern. I think it's time to stitch it again--maybe on a kitchen towel or the hem of a table runner this time.

The beekeeper in me is loving this. Love, love, LOVE it! You are a wise one, my friend Jane.

I LOVE big bummble bees! I can't get enough of watching them. The other day a tiny yellow bird landed on a purple cone flower and was picking off seeds. It felt like the world stood still!

I stitched a wall hanging for a friend that said, "Leave room in your garden for the angels to dance." I saw it and made up my own pattern, too!

I loved visiting and seeing it in their newlywed nest!

I love the thought of bees dancing. I love watching them, but haven't had any around this year because our yard is flowerless!

In Lilly's current state, we are a bee free zone. No bees allowed in our yard, let alone by the house. She absolutely freaks.

But I do love the saying!

You stitched that on the edge of my pillowcase and gave it to me when I was in college... because I was getting too intent on grades and "future" plans. I was forgetting to enjoy the now.
Thank you mama!

You can send a pillow my direction. Hahaha. Cute saying. Almost as cute as Aunt Jane! :-)

Wish I was coming to the wedding--take care of my Dora while she's there. And Whit too!

I love that you drew your own pattern! I don't think I would attempt that. It turned out so nicely, too. And I don't know that I would extrapolate so much meaning from one little saying, I love the way your mind works, Jane.

oh I love to stitch- I just picked up my needle this last week! Something so so soothing about the repetition of the needle and thread going in and out, in and out. I love how you think Jane. Your thoughts linger with me throughout the day.
(I think I might borrow your pattern!)
