Homemaking Tip—Soap & Germs

I finally followed Cali’s tip and bought an olive oil dispenser for dish soap. It’s a little accent (less than $3), but adds such a nice touch. It feels fancy.

We’ve gotten the e-mails that tell us not to put our purse on the floor of public restroom stalls, but what do we do about our pant legs now that short/capri season is behind us? I roll mine up. Calvin laughed when he saw me do it at a rest stop, but it keeps the hems off the floor so that later when I criss-cross my legs or tie my shoes I don’t get stall germs on my hands. Sidewalk germs or grocery store germs, yes, but somehow they seem cleaner than stall germs.

Have you got a tip for today?

I grew up going to a very old country doctor. he told my mother that if we had any idea how many germs were on our floor, we would never go bare foot. Well, I don't know, so I do! He wore shoes ALL the time, even around the house, can't do it!

ooooh, I think I am going to have to go and get myself an olive oil dish soap dispenser!!

well since you got me thinking about germs in public restrooms, i NEVER sit on the seat. Although, I haven't mastered the "hover" either, my thighs aren't that strong, so I ALWAYS wipe the seat and line it with toilet paper if their are no seat covers. Also when i was working we ALL shared the same sicknesses going around the office, it drove me crazy. so i pushed the garbage in the bathroom over by the door and the moment i stopped touching that door handle and used a paper towel i stopped sharing all the germs. so yucky if you think about it!!!

now i better get back to my dinner making, egg rolls!!! But if anybody has a great tip on how to get the dinner on the table without lifting a finger i want to hear about it!!! (well besides going out and having your hubby or someone else make it, i am spoiled with those a bit, but i mean when it is my turn making dinner)!!

I have been using the same item (think it is for vinegars and has pretty flowers on it) for a soap dispenser for years. It does look nice, but more than that it is so very handy instead of stooping under the sink.
Your friends out there may want to use the advertised green veggie/fruit bags to slow up the ripening process...they are great...in other words they work!!!
I keep baby wipes on top of the toilet tank to use on the seat or other parts, to catch any little drops that may have gone astray. Do not flush...but wrap in toilet paper and discard.
Always wipe clean, with a paper towel or dry cloth, your fresh mushrooms. Never use water to clean them.
Celery root can be bought at Safeway in the special veggie section. It is good chopped or grated for salads or soups.

Taking a cue from an old boss, might I recommend the ever infamous "wide stance?" ;)

When shopping, I always put my purse down in the main basket to avoid leaky diaper leftovers and theft(yes, I think about theft in small little Logan).
Also, I use the wipes that are complimentary and wipe around the entire carts edges.

I love the dispenser idea! Cute!

Fancy! Although, can I admit I actually hate using those bottles for soap? It always takes more shaking than I think it should. Or I really have to press that neck to one side to get any out. But, it is pretty. And, I hear it saves you from wasting soap.

I never think to roll up pants. I just don't think of germs too much. Am I gross?

My tip - ask your 6 and 10 year old boys every time they come out of the bathroom if they've washed their hands. EVERY. TIME. And then ask if it was with soap . . .

If your soap is slow coming out of your fancy bottle, just dilute it down with some water. It flows a lot easier, and goes farther with the husband who loves to pour it in!

I enjoy the look of the olive oil soap dispenser, Michelle's got one in her kitchen. I have a huge soap pump in my kitchen that I use and love as well.

I really don't want to think about the germs on the hems of my pants after public restrooms! Fortunately I hardly ever have to use public bathrooms.

Jane...I am second thinking my comments...would you please remove them...the one where I talk about the toilet, baby wipes, celery root, etc. Also remove this post too. Sorry...just reading the others shows I was way off base. Thanks. Deanna

I try to avoid public restrooms at all costs! But I really don't want to stop walking around barefoot at home...
