52 Blessings - iPod

It was a great blessing, and like many blessings, one I didn’t appreciate at first. Calvin and the kids gave it to me for my birthday many years ago, but I thought it was too expensive and tried to take it back. The store didn’t want it either. I brought it back home and learned to love it.

It read The Book of Mormon, Einstein and Team of Rivals to me. It repeated phrases that bore repeating and was quiet when I tired of listening. It was a poet in my pocket.

It sang all kinds of songs – theme songs, anthems, ballads, quiet songs, rousing songs. I could sing along or just listen. It didn’t really care. It was a piano in my pocket.

But yesterday when it was still in my pocket it went through the wash. It’s now resting in a tub of rice. If ever a home remedy works I hope it’s this one, because I shall really, really miss it if it doesn’t. I wish I'd have appreciated it from the very beginning, it really was a great blessing.

Have you ever had a blessing you didn't really appreciate at first?

This makes me sad. When I left my iPOD on the airplane a few months ago, I felt all the same emotions. HOWEVER, I never tried to take mine back to the store, so I guess you could say I ALWAY appreciated mine (wink).

I don't and never have had an iPOD. But we have washed many other things in this house: lots of chapsticks, a pocket knife or 2, pens, syringes, needles, endless amounts of corn, a bottle of cow medicine, and an unused diaper...that was a mess!

We've been through many, many ipods. The beauty is that as long as you use itunes, the ipod itself isn't the main player in the tragedy if lost. While the money to replace it stinks, you should still have your poets and pianos on your computer:)

I find I am usually slow to appreciate things.

I appreciate you!!! You help me to think about what I do have and not what I don't have. That gives me a deeper appreciate for life and all it brings with it. What I never appreciated before was having a good health. I thought it would always be....but now I know it always isn't.
Thank you for your posts...love them and love you.

Oh I feel your pain! My sister washed her Ipod shuffle and I laughed, then couple of days later...guessed who washed her's too? Yep that would be me. Let me know if the rice thing works.

We've had more than 1 ipod go through the washer. Some survived, some didn't. I didn't know about the rice trick. We bought Steve an ipod he didn't want too. He uses it every day now to listen to physics/science podcasts. Who would have guessed? :)

I'll never forget finding it in the washer and having to tell you the bad news. This post made me think of Cast Away, when Wilson floated away. It maked me so sad! I've lost my camera numerous times, and one time lost it in the mall and didn't know it. Luckily, when I called the mall they said they had a camera there...and it was mine! I call it my lucky camera. I know I'd feel sick if I lost it. But, after losing it several times I still have it two years later! I love you!

Tyler bought me a sonicare toothbrush. I, like you, thought it was too expensive and it was just a tooth brush. It was a gift from costco that came in a two pack and I knew his real motive was to have one himself. He knew I wouldn't like it because he bought it for Christmas, but didn't wrap it and put it under the tree. I probably didn't use it for 6 months in pure rebellion and now I am not sure I can ever go back to a regular tooth brush. Oh! How I wish I hated it.

Marc bought himself an iPod when they first came out. I wasn't interested at all and didn't think I would ever want one. He bought me an iPod touch last year for our anniversary. I guess sometimes he knows me better than I know myself because I do love that thing! So great for music, books, podcasts, and even an occasional game. Man, I hope yours can work again!

I love my ipod and use it daily! I would be devastated if it went through the wash (this is highly unlikely because it's rather large). Even though I use it for music every day, the thing I really love is listening to books, Conference talks and podcasts.
