52 Blessings – Company

Cali, Ray, Calvin -- they call themselves the No Match Club

We called it company as kids.  I don’t know why.  It’s not like any of its synonyms are synonymous with what it really is – business, corporation, group, band.  Nonetheless, people coming to visit us are called company and company coming is a great blessing on so many levels.

Level one:  you get to see, and visit, and be with those you love and enjoy.  We have had some great discussions this past weekend on family, preparing for the future, and politics.  Spending time with people you love puts life in perspective and helps you see a bigger future.

Level two:  you get to do things you wouldn’t normally do and eat more than you normally would.  Calvin and Ray went to get maple wood to make a baby cradle, and Calvin taught Cali and Ray how to make fire by friction.  We don’t make our fires by friction normally, nor do we make cradles on a regular basis.  Friday after work I made six dozen cookies, six loaves of bread, ten sheets of fruit leather, and a lemon meringue pie.  We roasted brisket, made potato salad, cherry bread, Spanish rice and liver, salsa, hot pastrami and Swiss cheese sandwiches, ate ice cream, fund-raiser donuts, and . . . you get the picture – we ate more food than a normal body needs and foods that don’t normally match.

Level three:  it makes you clean your house.

I’m glad God made company, on so many levels.

I love having company! We have loads that come down and help us with everything while we do all of Austin's medical stuff. All you said is very true, you get to have special memories, and a clean house. Craddle? That sounds fun!

We call it company too. I love having company, but sometimes get a little anxious because I hope to be a good hostess and make sure my house is clean enough. But I realize real friends aren't coming to see how clean my house is, but rather renew friendships. Please feel that you are invited to our house and be our company. :)

I love having company for all of those reasons as well! (If I never had company, my house would probably never be really clean...)

When I was reading the list I kept thinking, "And it makes you clean!" Apparently I'm not the only one who needs a little incentive on the cleaning front every once and a while.

Though Mom and Dad coming? Even though they're coming to help me? I feel like my house needs to be scrubbed from top to bottom and the fridge cleaned and organized. I'd hate for my mom to feel like she failed in raising me if she saw my house all dirty! Luckily I've been doing alright at pacing myself.

You made all that AFTER WORK? That would fill my entire day, dear lady! Wow.

I like company too. Especially the overnight, staying for a couple of days kind. Then it is long enough to get a real visit before they have to leave.

Hey - if you are ever in Southern Alberta, let me know! You and yours would always be welcome. (Do you play Rook?)
