Thursday Thinking – Green, Blue, Yellow, Pink

Cali and Ray decided not to find out the sex of their baby before it is born.  Before ultrasounds, there were plenty of yellow and green new baby outfits since we didn’t know what we were having either.  But today, it’s hard to find green without pink or blue dots, or yellow without pink or blue stripes.  I thought it ironic that in a world that seems so confused about gender, there is definitely no confusion in the aisles of Target.  Things are either for boys or for girls.

We had fun shopping today and when we got home Cali laid it all out as if she was twelve years old and had just gone school shopping.  Calvin was a great sport and looked at each item – well, not completely true, he drew the line at looking at the lotion, Desitin, baby wash, and swabs.

Do you call cotton glued to the end of sticks Q-tips or swabs?

Q-tips... James called them "ear-tips" for years, I kind of miss it.

How fun! I always end up thinking the neutral stuff seems feminine. Now I am curious to look, I have been out of baby mode for so long. I would have laid everything out too...

We didn't have the patience around here to wait to find out.

I call them Q-tips. What I want to know is how do you say "coupons?" Do you say
"coo-pons" or do you say it like "cue-pons?"

And what happens after she has the baby and it's a boy? Does she embellish with blue blankets and boy jackets? Or add pink bows if it's a girl?

I'm curious because I don't have the patience to wait and see. I admire people that do.

Now if I waited, it wouldn't be a big deal with clothes because I would just pull out the appropriate bins. ;)

I love surprises, but not in the baby department. I am always amazed by those who can wait to find out!

I totally would have laid everything out for admiration. That's half the fun of shopping.

Is it just the photo, or does Cali not even look pregnant? Wow.

We say Q-tips.

how fun! i LOVE shopping for baby clothes! I think since we have one of each gender the next one we might make a surprise! (no worries this is the year of the weight loss not the baby making so no this is not any sort of announcement)! When is she due again? And i agree she still look so tiny and i would have laid it all out too!! So fun! We say Q-tips!

ahhh! How can they stand it?! I just couldn't do it. I have no chance for delayed satisfaction.

I call them q-tips. Just like I call them Kleenex. And I say "coo-pons".

Q-tips. There is definitely not much that isn't boy or girl. It is okay though because little Jesse has a bright pink bouncer and some pink blankets and lots of girl toys to look forward to.

I can not believe that are getting that surprise. i am way to impatient, but it will be so much fun! Can't wait to hear :)

I call them q-tips. Or at least I think I do. Now you have me confused. ;)
I wanted to have Derrick be a surprise gender, but that was a no go with Bo.
By the way, I still lay out all my clothes after I buy them too, regardless or who they were bought for.

Buying baby stuff is so fun, I totally understand the excitement of laying it all out like that. I can't imagine being able to wait to find out the sex of the baby though, wow!

Aunt Jane,
I appreciate your posts, I really do (q-tips, by the way), but why is it that you (and not Cali) are doing all the posting about Cali? (Hint hint, Cali)...
Thanks for posting regularly, Aunt Jane, I look forward to your posts and to your comments on my own blog.
