Life in My World -- Watching Levin Grow

That old Bobby Goldsboro song from the '70's, "Watching Scotty Grow,"   keeps running through my head, most likely because that's what I've been doing:  watching Levin grow.  I forgot how quickly a newborn baby changes in those first few days.

Levin Buchanan Follett

It is so fun to have a new baby from this line on the pedigree chart.  I really, really like being a grandma. I like loving and feeling so connected to a baby, but not having the baby blues or curling my toes in anticipated pain when it's time to feed him.  I love smelling him and rocking him and kissing his head and neck.  I love watching him look around the room with his eyes wide open seeing things for the first time.  I love giving him my finger to hold and rubbing his legs and feet.  I love hearing him whimper.  I love seeing his left-cheek dimple.  Most of all, I like seeing Ray and Cali being parents and taking care of him.  They are a team; for instance, Cali feeds Levin half-way and then gives him to Ray to wake him up again.

Tonight Cali and I ran down to Target to get a few things she needed while Ray took care of Levin.  As we walked in the store I said, "It's hard to believe that all these people are living life not knowing what a huge miracle just happened in your world.  It feels like the whole world should stop to celebrate, doesn't it?"  And that is what I've been doing this week:  celebrating a new life, a new member of the family.

Jane, he is beautiful. Sorry...I know girls are beautiful, boys are handsome....but he is both. What a doll. I felt each beautiful word you used to describe your moments with him. I could smell, see, touch, hear all the sounds, sights and that newborn baby smell that is so pure. These are the moments of life that makes one feel very close to God. So happy for you.

Wow, she must be doing great if she's already out and about going to Target! I was so sore after having Landon that I could hardly walk for the first 3 weeks!

I know exactly what you mean about walking around feeling like the world should stop for your miracle!

I can totally see how being a grandma would fit you so well, Levin is a lucky guy.

Oh, those sweet first days. They go so quickly (and I'm not sure if that's a word of warning or a beacon of hope... probably both depending on the moment).

I had a trip to Target with my mom in the first few days. Everything on the conveyor screamed "I just had a baby!" and yet no one seemed to care. You put it so well. The world just got flipped upside down, but only felt in that household.

I think we have the same bouncer. It's saved us now that Millie has her fussy hours in the evenings!

Levin Buchanan. Perfect. (I even wikipedia-ed 'Buchanan,' since I was pretty sure he was a US president. I was right!)

He is completely adorable. And tell Ray not to worry. He'll blink one day and Levin will be crawling across the floor like he'd done it his whole life.

He is a beautiful baby and I'm so excited for all of you! Seriously...Cali must be doing really great to be out at all this quick! I love that Ray wants him to crawl already. Mobility is not always a blessing for moms who are used to putting baby somewhere and having them stay there! Levin is a darling name. I think he needs to read the series "Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo". Definitely something he needs in his library. Congratulations Grandma!

How fun!!! Oh man, it definetly would be nice to have the perks of a baby without the "baby blues or curling your toes" too!! (I love the way you described the pain of nursing--so so true.)

What a sweet post. Levin is such a blessed baby. An adorable one too. Love big boys filling out their clothes already.

I remember that feeling when I had Reed. It was Christmastime and the bustle was not around my precious newborn. Celebrating a newborn is a perfect priceless.

How perfectly put. We have twin boys coming any minute!!! Love these precious spirits. I often think of Paul and Kim's wife, Barbie and wondering if they got to see these precious spirits before the came to earth. We feel like we need to love them twice as much and feel blessed to get to hold and love them here. Love your post..know excactl how you feel!!!

So many things to say but wish you were home so we could just visit together. I also love the song "Watching Scotty Grow" and sang it to my boys:) Levin---what does it mean?---is too perfect for words and I'm really happy that you've got to spend time with him and the new parents. And, I really missed your organ playing in church today. Honestly, the songs d.r.a.g.g.e.g on!

Oh my gosh he is SO CUTE!! Those first few days/weeks/months are such a blur, its a good thing they come out so cute, and you love them so much to make those postpartum woes worth it. :)

Congratulations!! He is a beautiful baby. I am excited to try out being a grandma in my future - my grandma always said it was the best job in the world. All of the fun but none of the responsibility!

Your paragraph about everyone being oblivious to your miracle is spot on. That always takes me by surprise when something big happens.

I love that song. We always sang it when Sam was a baby and just put in "Sammy" instead of "Scotty". It is one of Jeff's favorites to play on the guitar.

I love babies! What cute pics :)

It was really difficult to read your post. I kept telling myself, "I'm trying to lose weight! I can't get pregnant yet!" But your description made me baby hungry. And the pictures of course. He's so sweet and beautiful.
