With that said, the last Tuesday topic that was suggested by you blog-friends was exoTic Tuesday – a day in which I do something I’ve never done before; yea, perhaps even eat something exotic. Tofu would meet that criteria for me. Even humus could qualify.
Here’s to my adventure. I’m off to the grocery store. Anything I definitely should not try?
I’ll be back with a picture later today. Mind over matter, mind over matter, mind over matter.
I tried the hummus. You are right, it is very good.
And then, since I have never had Haagan Daz in spoon form and it is foreign (and therefore exoTic), I got some of it, too. As good as hummus is, Calvin, Grace, Ande, and I polished off the Haagan Daz while there is still plenty of hummus for tomorrow.
Thanks for your comments and ideas . . .

humus is yummy, you would probably like it! Tofu...well I have this rule...If I can't stand the smell of it, I don't eat it! HA! Skip the tofu and go for the hummus!
I'd heartily suggest hummus. Maybe edamame (soybeans in the pod).
I love finding some new kind of produce and then figuring out what to do with it.
I used to be a frequent tofu eater, knowing it was a cheap way to get my protein. I couldn't cough up the dough for meat. After all that eating, I still never found a super appetizing way to eat it (I'd just crumble it up most of the time. People often asked what the "white cheese" was.)
Can't wait to see what you try! (And I had to make sure I wasn't near the TV showing Bizarre Foods at the gym. I couldn't stomach running and watching it at the same time!)
Oh I just ate edamame for the first time last week and I am hooked! So I echo Deidra. Go for it!
No suggestions, but I'm really looking forward to your new Tuesday posts:)
Hummus is good and easily masked by a carrot when you are dipping. I'm not to adventurous either, can't wait to see what you find. At a grocery store in town too, is there much exotic?
wow. daring. I'm not that daring either. GoodlLuck!!!
After I read your post this afternoon I immediately thought of some weird foods that you could probably find in our little town: escargo, tongue, caviar, squid, stomach lining,...but that may not be what you are going for. Now that I am sick after picturing those items, just bring me a tums for my tummy! Hugs
I can't wait to see what you come up with!
you should definatly try hummus. and get some garlic parmesan pita chips to go with. yummy!! you are so crazy JANE!!
That would be my husbands favorite job too!
I am so totally with you on this!!
hmmm-
dying to know what you brought home!?
Can I just say that tofu is delish?! I love it so much! The problem is that most Americans use that mushy white stuff that is not very yummy. If you get the firm molded kind, and season and stir fry it, it is so kick your boots off and loosen your belt good! Come on Janey Payney! Try the tofu!!
If you buy a couple of bulbs of fennel, slice them vertically and saute them, with a vertically sliced onion, in a little olive oil, salt, and pepper, you'll have a favorite new and "exoTic" side dish. Let me know if you like it.
Kaseri cheese, rutabegas, and kumquats would probably qualify, too. I love them all!
And you, too, of course,
BRENDA
I like to try new food sometimes. I have to say though (at the risk of being shot by other commenters)...I think hummus is GROSS! Tofu too. That ice cream is amazing though. If your going for exotic, try Italian gelatto or Greek moussaka or something not made with a vegetable and then smashed to disguise it. Blech.
Hilarious. I love Haagen Daz AND hummus! I guess I'm a pretty adventurous eater, I love to try new things.
I am not a hummus fan, but my in-laws love it. However, you have convinced me that I should go get some of that ice cream!
I tried hummus for the first time this summer and I was too pleasantly surprised that I liked it.
I could never do the job of Andrew Zimmerman. I still remember the show where he ate raw shark that was fermented. Eck!
Actually, Haagen Daz ice cream is NOT a foreign product. It started in 1920 in New York City, but they gave it a foreign name so that people would think it was imported, and therefore of higher quality. Isn't that funny? Now, they have centers all over the world, but it started in the USA. I don't know why, but I just love that story.
But, that being said, any excuse to eat a new and yummy brand of ice cream is a good one.
Mmmmmm. Next time try the red pepper hummus.
Seaweed should be on your list of things to try. Its a main staple here. Dried and crunchy, soft or soggy, anyway you choose to eat it, I would make sure there is something else mixed with it. Break up a little and sprinkle on top of your next stir fry, eat it with your sushi or put some in your soup. Or just snack on it (I haven't quite conquered that one) It's like tofu and hummus...very nutritious.
